1) What happens when you participate in EcoUnit?
You help the environment in 2 important ways:
2) What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. You can calculate your own carbon footprint here: www.safeclimate.org/calculator
The average American emits 21 tons of CO2 each year! In order to support a global population of people who live like Americans, we would need 5 earths!

3) What is a carbon offset?
Carbon offsetting is the act of mitigating ("offsetting") greenhouse gas emissions. A well-known example is the purchasing of offsets to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions from personal air travel. Carbon offsets generally refer to acts by individuals or companies that counteract ("offset") CO2 emissions. Common carbon offsets include planting trees, which effectively remove CO2 from the atmosphere; building and operating alternative energy facilities, which reduce the need for CO2-emitting energy sources like oil; and reducing common sources of CO2, such as building and operating methane capture facilities. Carbon offsets can be purchased from a variety of companies and markets worldwide.

4) What is an EcoUnit credit?
An “EcoUnit credit” is a loyalty currency that is used to motivate a discrete "green" action. EcoUnit credits can be redeemed for various green products and environmental causes.

5) What does it mean to be carbon neutral?
If a person is able to generate enough carbon offsets to completely mitigate the amount of carbon dioxide that they emit, it is called "carbon neutral". You can become carbon neutral for free simply by being a regular participant in EcoUnit.

You help the environment in 2 important ways:
- You earn EcoUnit credits, which are redeemable for green products and environmental causes. If you earn enough EcoUnit credits by being a regular participant you can actually earn enough EcoUnit credits to reduce your carbon footprint to zero! That's called being "carbon neutral"…and that's cool!
- You help companies develop more eco-friendly products and processes. We believe that the quickest way to a greener planet is through the power of market forces - we help companies understand the demand for eco-friendly products and processes and motivate their customers to adopt them.
